Help our Afghan Refugees Receive Medical Care

The images and stories from Afghanistan elicit a range of emotions -- shock, horror, empathy, fear -- and leave us wondering how and where we can help. CCI is actively assisting our new arrivals and preparing to provide ongoing support to those fortunate few who have defied the odds to reach us and start a new life.

Tamana recently arrived in the US, and when asked how she felt when she landed in the United States Capital, she replied, "I am dreaming. It is not possible that I am in the United States."

Maryland is one of seven re-settlement sites in the country and CCI is a key partner in the web of support that greet each refugee or asylee through our Refugee Health Program. By government notice, we are prepared for an influx of refugees "due to the urgent need to relocate Afghan individuals who have assisted the US government overseas."

These Afghanis helped the United States when we called on them. Whether they worked for US AID or as an interpreter for the US Army, these Afghan refugees offered their support. It is now our time to help them.

Each refugee receives two medical visits as part of the Refugee Health Program. During these sessions, we provide comprehensive screenings, translation services, transportation and access to prescription medications.

CCI also supports refugee patients by helping them navigate health insurance plans and providing nutrition education. In addition, CCI provides follow-up care for families, including dental visits, pediatric appointments, and behavioral health services.
